A Little About Me…

The way God wired me has caused me to be a reformer and fighter against injustice since I was quite young. (Take the boycott against the terrifying haunted house at my boarding school that I staged when I was 11, for example.) Thankfully, as I grew, the issues became more substantial, which also means more complex.

Having lived, moved, and breathed in the missions community since the age of 8, I have seen the joys and the woes of international ministry. I have also seen the help and the harm it can bring – both to those being served and to those serving. (The dualism of which is often one of the root causes of the harm, but that’s a discussion for a different page…)

After going through some pretty significant personal and ministry crises simultaneously, and watching myself and those I served with come to the end of our capacity, and wading through the collateral damage on the other side of the crises, I am passionate about seeing people in ministry walking out their own soul’s spiritual formation, and then living out of that transformation into their ministry.

The intersection of spiritual formation and missions is the place where I am currently staking my tent, and I will dwell here for a while until God directs the journey onward. It is from this place of missional transformation, or contemplative activism, that I share in my writings, both here on my blog, as well as in articles and speaking presentations that I have the opportunity to engage.

The issues with which I engage come from personal experience in my years of living cross-culturally, living in a transracial family (both in my family of origin and my family of procreation – in the South…), working in social justice in poverty alleviation, disability, etc., and reaching the lost with the Good News.
